KINSTON - Emma Ruth Suggs Cox, 74, went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 16, 2012. Emma Ruth was born March 15, 1938, in Lenoir County to the late Edd Leamon Suggs Sr. and Bertha Jernigan Suggs. Emma Ruth's husband, Edgar Lee "Eddie" Cox preceded her in death on November 21, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Grimes Lira; and a brother, Parrott Suggs. Emma Ruth was a member of Northwest Christian Church where she called shut-ins weekly. She enjoyed her phone calls and so did the shut-ins. They became friends and even called her at times. She enjoyed reading and puzzle books in her later years as her energy was limited. Being a Pink Lady at Lenoir Memorial Hospital and working in the Surgical Waiting Room was a joy until her health declined. Emma Ruth retired from Kennedy Home after serving as an Administrative Assistant for 26 years. She and her husband Eddie also served as part-time childcare workers for five years. A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Emma Ruth had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Robert E. White Jr. and wife Rachel, of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Jessica Grimes Garner and husband Keith, George Shambley and wife Shannon, and Josh White; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Grimes Garner and Kailey Garner; two step-daughters, Debra Cox Oliver of Kinston and Leigh Ann Harper and husband K.W., of Kinston; sister Olia Lee Sugg and husband Ronald, of La Grange; brother Leamon Suggs and wife Dorothy, of La Grange; five step-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; along with a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at rousefh.com. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Northwest Christian Church, 2009 Carey Road, Kinston, NC 28501. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
