MAURY - Shirley Ann Stroud, 74, of Maury entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 15, 2013. Shirley was born in Norfolk, Va. on October 29, 1938 and lived in Manhattan, NY before moving to Kinston in the late 1940's. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 56 years and was an active member of Brooks Frizzelle United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother with a wonderful sense of humor and an incredibly compassionate nature. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sara Fitzgerald and first husband, James Murray Jarman. She is survived by her husband James Stroud of Maury; sons, Neil Jarman and wife Dawn of Maury and Scott Jarman and wife Susan of Fuquay-Varina; daughters, Jennifer Fox and husband Joel of Dacula, GA. and Betsy Baker and husband Nathan of Raleigh; brother, John Terry Fitzgerald of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Andrew, Timothy, Molly, Daniel, Jared, Sara and Jenna. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Shirley to the Brooks Frizzelle Memorial Fund, c/o Blanche Nethercutt, 2976 Four Way Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580 and the Ruritan National Foundation PO Box 487, Dublin, VA. 24084 c/o James and Shirley Stroud Educational Fund. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Reverend Jamie Thompson. The visitation will follow the funeral service.
