SEVEN SPRINGS - Sylvia Quinn Barwick, 74, of Seven Springs, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Sylvia was born January 26, 1938, in Lenoir County to the late Julius and Irma Mercer Rouse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose Quinn; and a sister, Lucille Rouse Turner. Sylvia had a great love in her heart for children which led to a 34 year career as a teacher in the Kinston City School System. The last 13 years of her career she taught science at Rochelle Middle School. Sylvia was a member of Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed reading, working with flowers and cherished time spent with her family. A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. George Futrelle and the Rev. Bryce Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Sylvia is survived by a daughter, Christi Quinn Smith and husband Chris, of Seven Springs; four grandchildren, Quinnton Smith, Carson Smith, Cody Smith and Allyson Spivey and husband Matt; four nieces and nephews, David Duff and wife Debra, and their son Patrick, Cathy Kennedy and husband Wayne, Eddie Duff and wife Doris, Denise Duff and Jenny. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at rousefh.com.
