SPRING HILL, Fla. - Lt. Col. William Gerald Mozingo, age 82, passed away at Hospice Care in Spring Hill, Fla. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Mozingo and Sudie Thomas Waller Mozingo; his half sisters, Virginia, Ozora, Grace and Helen; and half brothers, T. B. and Wilson. After completing high school at LaGrange, he entered Duke University on a full four-year football scholarship. At the end of his first year, he joined the Air Force ROTC. Upon graduation from Duke in 1954, he entered the Air Force and trained as a B47 pilot. He later became a B52 Stratofortress pilot. After 20 years in the Air Force he retired to Hawaii where he opened and operated an import business for eighteen years. He then moved to Florida where he lived until his death. Survivors include one brother, Bobby C. Mozingo and his fiancée, Charlene of Apopka, Fla.; brother-in-law Jack Jackson; and sister-in-law Hattie Waller, both of Kinston; and his aunt, Addie Griffin of Newport News, Va.
