PINK HILL - Woodley Franklin "Nig" Howard, 84, of Jonestown Road, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2013. A native of Lenoir County, he was born April 15, 1929, the son of Rex and Ellen Howard. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War era. Pursuant to his service in the U.S. Army, he worked at Turner's Tractor and Implement Company in Kinston for 35 years. He was a member of Christian Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, of Jonestown Road. He was a lifelong musician who loved pickin' and grinning to any bluegrass songs with friends and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rex and Ellen Howard; and brother, James Edward "Rex" Howard Sr. His surviving family includes his loving wife, Myrtle Ellen Howard; sons Woodley Franklin Howard Jr. and wife Hope, Michael Daren Howard and wife Penny, all of Deep Run; sister Cynthia Smith of Deep Run; two grandchildren, Shawn Howard and wife Traci, and Niki Howard; and two great-grandchildren, Keelin Howard and Gage Howard. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, from the chapel of Pink Hill Funeral Home with the Reverend Virgil Murphy and the Reverend Craig Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
