KINSTON - Zannie Trott Smith, 93, peacefully passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014. Zannie was born April 2, 1920, in Richlands to the late Clifford and Mollie Hunter Trott. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Horace Cottle and J.W. Smith. Zannie attended Hardbarger Business School following her high school graduation and retired from the Town of Beulaville where she worked as town clerk. Quiet by nature, she enjoyed her flowers, gardening, cooking and reading. In later years she enjoyed traveling with her second husband. Zannie attended Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Most of all she cherished time spent with her family. A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Kay Best officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from East Duplin Memorial Gardens. Zannie is survived by her son, Gerald Cottle and wife Gail, of Kinston; granddaughter, Amy Hooten and husband Bryan, of La Grange; three great-grandchildren, McKayla Hooten, Lauren Hooten and Micah Hooten; a special niece, Danita Sheppard; along with a number of other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Cottle, 804 Hardy Bridge Road, Kinston.
