CHARLOTTE - Emma Hart Alphin, 89, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Mrs. Alphin was born August 10, 1924, in Lenoir County, N.C. to the late Willie and Mary Aycock Hart. She was the wife of the late Eugene A. Alphin. Emma retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County School System where she worked as a Cafeteria Manager for 21 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and working with her flowers. A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Alphin is survived by four children, Phillip Alphin and wife Debbie, of Simpsonville, S.C., Eddie Alphin and wife Kay, of Greenville, S.C., Martin Alphin and fiancee' Michelle, of Charlotte and William "Bill" Rhodes and wife Barbara, of Charlotte; three sisters, Reba Blanton of La Grange, Ruth Hedgepeth of Halifax and Grace Grant of Kinston; six grandchildren, Jan, Karen, Steve, John, Ryan and Jeremy; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Alphin was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Phillips; and three brothers, Henry H. Hart, Robert Shelton Hart and Willie Hart Jr. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at rousefh.com.
