KINSTON - William Mack Edmondson ends a life of 79 years with grace and dignity on April 8, 2014. Beloved Mack was the son of Mr. W.M. Edmondson and Mrs. Leona Daugherty Edmonson and husband to the late Sara Wheatley Edmondson. Growing up in Kinston, he was early noted to be a star pupil in school. Marrying his childhood sweetheart, Sara, the two of them launched careers in support of our country's government. He graduated with a BA from East Carolina and an MBA from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. They lived in Alexandria the majority of their married life. During the period of 1978-1982, they lived in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was Deputy Director of GAO's European Branch Office. He was later appointed to the International Audit Staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels. After retiring from government service in 1993, he and Sara returned to Kinston until her death in February 2008. Mack was a true renaissance man. Mastering the piano at concert level, he was able to speak five foreign languages fluently and read seven as well. Indeed, they were among the finest diplomats that our country could offer.
