KINSTON - Kenneth Edward ""Peck"" Ball, 74, of Kinston, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014. ""Peck"" was born November 7, 1939, in Lenoir County to Ella Craft Ball and the late Carl Whit Ball. ""Peck"" graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture. He was the former Chief Magistrate in Lenoir County where he retired following 20 years of service. ""Peck"" loved the land and enjoyed the farming life. He also enjoyed spending time at his place on the river and fishing. ""Peck"" was a jack of all trades and a people person. He took great pride in helping and supporting the underdog. A service of remembrance will be held Friday, April 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Bonnie Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Innocent's Episcopal Church Cemetery. In addition to his mother, ""Peck"" is survived by a son, Kenny Ball; step-son, Billy Sutton and wife Wendy; brother Joe Ball; special companion, Betty Lou Rhodes; niece Debra Gladstone; two nephews, Joey Ball and Ben Rhodes; Betty Lou's son, Frederick ""Frog"" Rhodes and wife Pam, and their son Matthew, who ""Peck"" thought of as a grandson; Betty Lou's daughter, Sheri R. Whitaker and husband Richard; nine great-nephews and nieces along with three step-grandchildren. In addition to his father, ""Peck"" was preceded in death by a sister, Anne B. Rhodes.
