SNOW HILL - Mrs. Callie King Jones, 93, died Thursday morning, June 19, 2014. A native of Lenoir County, she was born December 22, 1920, the daughter of Raymond Cleveland King and Annie Eliza Rouse King. Following marriage to her late husband, Kermit Willard Jones, she moved to the Arba community of Greene County where she resided until her death. As many of her generation, Mrs. Jones farmed until 1971 when she began working with Edwards Florist (today Greene County Florist) until her retirement. "Miss Callie," as she was known to many, loved gardening and fishing, particularly at the pond on her farm that is appropriately referred to as Callie's Pond. Mrs. Jones was a member of Hull Road Original Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Richard Earl King, Catherine Rose King Foy, Ernest Lee King, Eugene Casper King, Lanie Rebecca King Radford, Joyce Rouse King Deans, Edna Annie King Craft and Raymond Cleveland "R.C." King, Jr. Her surviving family includes her daughter, Sheila Jones Kennedy and husband Bobby Gene Kennedy; granddaughter Jordan Brooke Kennedy; and grandson, Justin Jones Kennedy and wife Meredith H. Kennedy. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Leon Grubbs officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at the home of Bobby and Sheila Kennedy, 3001 Arba Jason Road, LaGrange, NC.
