STANTONSBURG - Mrs. Dorothy Harper Turnage, 76, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at her residence. A native of Greene County, she was born May 6, 1938, the daughter of Oscar Edward and Dorothy Jones Harper. She owned and operated Harper's Store for many years and was a member of Davis Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turnage was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clifton Turnage; sister, Ann Haislip; and brothers, Craven Harper and Willard Harper. Her surviving family includes her daughters, Jane Turnage Stokes of Winterville and Kathy Turnage Gilbert and husband, Steve of Stantonsburg; son, Jeff Turnage and wife, Joy of Swansboro; grandchildren, Travis Turnage and wife, Allyson of Winterville, Ashton Turnage of Black Mountain, Lanny Horne and wife, Paige of Washington, Alex Gilbert and Brandon Gilbert both of Stantonsburg, and Corey Stokes of Winterville; and a great-grandchild, Audrey Horne. A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM Sunday, July 6, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Steven Gay officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Sunday and other times at Mrs. Turnage's residence.
