KINSTON - Forest Gerald "Jerry" McCullen, 69, of Kinston passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Born at midnight on January 19, 1945, he was the son of the late James Forest McCullen and Christine Darden McCullen. Jerry was born in Clinton and grew up on Topsail Beach where he gained a love for the ocean that followed him the rest of his life. He worked summers with his father in construction and attended private school at St. Christopher's in Virginia. His parents, who were generous souls, wanted only the best for him. He inherited that charitable nature and was well known and respected. He graduated from East Carolina University with a Masters in Psychology and became a therapist at a mental institution in Atlanta. He was also a race car driver that loved danger and a teacher who touched the lives of everyone he taught. Jerry was widely loved and is survived by a large close-knit family of choice including his son, James Forest McCullen II and daughter, Candace Jones; cousins, Kaye, Gene, Jane, Ronnie, Allison, Meredith, and Christopher Boyette; Aunt Melva; Cousin Linda; along with other family members, Tyler Allison, Kristie Cahoon, Joseph Holloman, Erica Kinley, Neel-Gopal Sharma, Nathan Sparrow, and Nicholas Williams.
