GRIFTON - Fred Donald Batchelor, age 80, of 6041 Skeeter Pond Road, Grifton passed away at home on July 11, 2014, of natural causes. Fred was born on January 26, 1934, in Wilson County to the late Fred Darcie and Vennie Virginia Batchelor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Fred Reno Batchelor. He married Mary Bogey on September 8, 1952, and served in the U.S. Army from 1953–1955. He worked at DuPont until he retired in 1991, at which time he started a business, Indian Island Fish Farm in Aurora. Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Bogey Batchelor of the home; his sons, Richard Dean Batchelor and wife Judy Rose Batchelor, of Grifton and Thomas Scott Batchelor of Alexandria, Va.; grandson Fred Quentin Batchelor and girlfriend Lee Anna, of Grifton; granddaughter Crystal Batchelor Grant and husband Dewayne Grant, of Grifton; great-grandsons Tyler Grant of Grifton and Nyles Byrne of Kinston; sister Delores Tyndall of Freemont; and daughter-in-law, Merita Huggett Abbott. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Ivy White officiating.
