KINSTON - Alphia H. Hill died peacefully at home on Monday, August 4, 2014, and has gone to be in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Hill Sr. and son, Felix Marion Hill. Her surviving son, Harvey Hill and his wife Pam, live in Southern Pines, N.C. She has a granddaughter, Molly Garner her husband Brendon, and their daughter, Grace who live in Winston-Salem. Having lived all of her 87 years in Lenoir County and being the youngest of a large family of seven children, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Carl Hill, Beatrice Hill, Ruth Askew, Stanford Hill, Odessa Taylor, and twin brother, Rom. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 87 years and was still very active there until her death. She retired from Caswell Center in the mid 1990's. Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Alphia will always agree that she was the ultimate caregiver. She was the sole caretaker of her husband Harvey for seven years after he suffered a debilitating stroke and of her son Marion the last three years of his life. Alphia was blessed to have nieces, nephews, and all of their children who visited her regularly. Her kindness, love, and generous spirit touched so many lives. A special thanks to her loving friend Pat who cared for her the last five years of her life. She also left behind her sweet and loyal dog, Duchess. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kinston. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Vito Bisogno officiating. Graveside services will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Online condolences may be sent to Howard-Carter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Sign the guest book at
