LA GRANGE - Gerald James "Jerry" Stalnaker, 80, of La Grange, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Jerry was born December 11, 1930, in Grand Island, Nebraska to the late James Charles Stalnaker and Evelyn McNutt Stalnaker. Jerry served his country nine years in the United States Navy and twelve years in the United States Air Force retiring as a Tech Sergeant. Following his military service, Jerry worked many years as a sales representative in advertising and building materials. Jerry was a devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he has served as a lector. Jerry exhibited a passionate enthusiasm in everything he tackled. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, golf, baseball and exercise. Jerry was a former member of the La Grange Rotary Club and Phi Beta Kappa at Lenoir Community College. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10 a.m. from Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Edward Burch officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Register Stalnaker; four children, Mark Stalnaker and wife Jean, of Baker, Fla., Eric Stalnaker and wife Donna, of Kinston, Beth S. Hill and husband Johnny, of Pocatello, Idaho, and Glen Stalnaker and wife Lisa, of Kinston; two sisters, Barbara Pierce and Carole Hodge, both of Tulsa, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Miranda, Morgan, Derrick , Kelly, Ashley, Kim, Julie, Krista, Maria, Holly, Luke and Faith; three-great-grandchildren, Nathan, Zoe and Lexie. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry, Richard and Darrell Stalnaker. A rosary service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Father Bill Jon Acosta Escobar officiating and the family will receive friends following the service.
