KINSTON - Sylvia Jean King White, 73, of Kinston passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012. Born May 18, 1939, in Lenoir County, she was the daughter of the late Rodolph Franklin King and Ruth Lane King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joel B. White Sr.; and brother, Rodolph D. King. Sylvia was a secretary with Lenoir County Schools and was a lifetime member of Armenia Christian Church. She was very involved with Relay for Life and will be remembered as a beloved Grandma. Survivors include her sons, Joel B. White Jr. and wife Barbara, of Reidsville and Jeffrey A. White and wife Nancy, of Kinston; daughter Jean W. Smith and husband Kendall, of La Grange; grandchildren Courtney N. Smith, Amber C. White, Sarah M. White, David F. White, and Lane B. Smith; sisters Pat K. Small and husband Lynwood, of Kinston, Faye K. Harper and husband Daniel, of Smyrna, and Ella Ruth King of Sea Level; and brother-in-law, James M. White and wife Minnie, of Kinston. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Howard-Carter Funeral home and other times at the home of Lynwood and Pat Small. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Vernon officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
