KINSTON - Joyce Hill Owens Dula, 81, of Kinston, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 18, 2013, after a courageous 17 year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, G. C. and Sallie Summerlin Hill; brother William Hill; sisters Effie Lee Hill Becton and Ida Faye "Tootsie" Hill Mozingo; husbands Milton Curtis Owens and Henry Floyd Dula; and her great-grandson, Ethan Turner. Mrs. Dula retired from Lenoir Memorial Hospital where she worked in the Pharmacy. She was a member of British Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, son Glenn Owens and Elaine Elliott Melkonian of Ayden; daughters Connie Owens of Hugo, Marsha Owens Edwards and husband Tommy, of Hugo, and Cheryl Owens Turner and husband Doug, of Potters Hill; grandchildren Rebecca Reading and husband Shawn, of Greenville, Curtis Owens and wife Molly, of Suffolk, Va., Autumn Brown of Potters Hill, Thomas Edwards and wife Brandy, of Hugo, and Douglas Turner of Potters Hill; nine surviving great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew, and Dakota Reading of Greenville, Braxton Brown of Potters Hill, Lettie, Emily, Glory, and Willa Owens of Suffolk, Va. and Sawyer Edwards of Hugo. She is also survived by her brothers, James Wesley Hill of Queensbury, N.Y. and Wiley Edward "Tommy" Hill of Kinston; and sister, Rebecca "Becky" Hill of Kinston. The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff, EMS staff, and Joyce's many friends at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Also, Dr. Peter Watson, Dr. Robert Gallaher, Dr. Stephen Irvin of Kinston, Dr. Diane Semer of Greenville and their staff for their loyal, loving and caring support during this journey. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Smith and Pastor Jan Rouse officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
