GREENVILLE - Jeanne Clayton Conklin, 91, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Pinewood Memorial Park officiated by Dr. Greg Rogers. Jeanne was born in Richmond, Virginia, to Robert and Genevieve Clayton. She graduated from Westhampton High School and attended Richmond Professional Institute. On December 27, 1944, she married E. Gordon Conklin. They lived in Louisville, Kentucky while Gordon completed advanced degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. While there, she worked with him in churches in Indiana. After graduation, they returned to Virginia to the Wakefield Baptist Church. Subsequently, she served with her husband at Memorial Baptist Church in Williamston, N.C; First Baptist Church in Kinston, N.C.; and Oakmont Baptist Church in Greenville, N.C. She continued to live in Greenville after Gordon's death in June 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances England; her mother in-law Lucie Conklin; and her brother in-law Warren Conklin. She is survived by her son, Tim Conklin and wife Pat, of Orlando, Fla.; and a daughter, Debbie Conklin of Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakmont Baptist Church, 1600 Red Banks Rd., Greenville, NC 27858. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
