KINSTON - Jean King Smith, 80, of Kinston, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Jean was born April 16, 1933, in Lenoir County to the late Arthur and Irma Heath King. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Emmett Robinson Smith Sr. Mrs. Smith was a farm wife and homemaker who loved her family. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, singing and cooking. She set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives. Her greatest accomplishment took place on May 13, 2013, with her acceptance of Jesus Christ into her life. A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 3 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Herring officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Irma J. Woods and husband Roy E. Woods Sr.; son Emmett R. Smith Jr. and wife Nancy Antwine Smith; four grandchildren, Roy Woods Jr. and wife Nicole Woods, Emmett R. Smith III and wife Anna Oglesby Smith, Stephanie Smith Wade and Christopher Nicholas Smith; three great-grandchildren and one on the way, Callie Cheyenne Woods, Matthew Addison Wade and Emersyn C. Smith; two brothers, Don King and wife Judy, Earl King and wife Doris; sister-in-law Betty King; three brothers-in-law, Clarence Young, Charles W. Smith and Fate Smith and wife Emogene; along with a special caregiver, Betsy Lynch. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by nine siblings. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home.
