KINSTON - Clifton Carroll Monroe, 81, went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, June 2, 2013. He served in the U.S. Army, retired from Civil Service at Cherry Point MAS, and was a faithful member of the Kinston Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Tase Monroe and Daisy Tilghman Monroe; six sisters, two brothers, and son-in-law, Thomas Hontros. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Georgia Whaley Monroe; six children, Emily "Mickey" Hontros, Sheila Landry (Maurice), Tanya Monroe, Greg Monroe (Pam), Ivan Monroe (Carla), and Trevor Monroe (Laura); 10 grandchildren, April Barefoot (Jason), Jamie Kallison, Jenny Lee (John), Paul Anderson, Amanda Proctor (Evan), Casey Monroe, Stephen Avery, Tase Monroe, Jake Monroe, and Megan Monroe; eight great-grandchildren, Erica Barefoot, Thomas Barefoot, Allysa Kallison, Ashton Kallison, Shelby Lee, Jonathan Anderson, Gaven Proctor and Jaden Avery; his special friends, Charlotte and Sonny Sparrow; and all of his church families. Funeral services will be at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, with Robert Goff and Lennie Regan officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at Edwards Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2707 Turnage Drive Kinston.
