KINSTON - Barbara Dorn Paderick, 79, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, surrounded by her devoted family. She was born Barbara Sue South on November 8, 1933, to William R. South, Sr., and Inez Pace South in Honea Path, S.C. She is survived by her sister Nancy Nell South and was preceded in death by her sister, Nina South Traynham; sister, Ethel South Hundley; and brother, William R. South, Jr. Barbara has been a resident of Kinston since 1961 and has been married to Hatherly "Hal" C. Paderick since 1975. Some of her fondest memories include: being involved in Miss America Pageant preliminaries, gardening, working at Paderick's Pharmacy, spending time with her breakfast club at Eckerd's, working the polls during election season, and being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include: devoted husband, Hal Paderick; daughter, Connie Dorn Rist of Charlotte; Leonard W. (Paula) Dorn, Jr. of Shallotte; Lynette Dorn (George) Johnson of Greenville; Carol Dorn (Jeff) Sanders of Raleigh; and stepson, Henry C. (Melissa) Paderick of Kinston. She also is survived by: six loving grandchildren, Michelle Lloyd, William Dorn, Mary Dorn, Corey Baldwin, Ashby Johnson and Katie Johnson; six step grandchildren, Elisabeth Sanders Strickland, Jonathan Sanders, Laura Sanders Murphy, Joshua Paderick, Hannah Paderick and Bethany Paderick; one great granddaughter, Ella, one great grandson, four step great grandsons and one step great granddaughter. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Edwards Funeral Home, 702 N. Queen St., Kinston, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. There will be a private burial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534, or to Gordon Street Christian Church, 118 East Gordon Street, Kinston, NC 28501. The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to Dr. Rupert Jilcott, Dr. Robert Gallaher, Dr. Pradeep S. Arumugham, as well as the remarkable staff of Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro, all of whom provided the most loving and compassionate care possible.
