KINSTON - Funeral services for Samuel "Sammy" James Rufus, 66, of 1006, Desmond St. who died on Sunday, June 30, 2013, will be held Friday, July 5. 2013, from the United American FWB Tabernacle, 1011 J.E. Reddick Drive at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Sammy, as he was affectionately called, was a member of the Hickory Grove Church of Christ DOC at an early age and matriculated to St. John FWB Church under the leadership of Bishop W.J. Best where he served as deacon, drummer, president of the Gospel Choir and the St. John Male Chorus, member of the Pastor's Aide, and Kinston Community Male Chorus. He was employed by Lakeside Mills, Daley Herring, White's Meat Market, Kinston Housing Authority, Landmark Properties, and Albritton-Carraway Funeral Home. He was also actively involved in the Lincoln City Annual Reunion. He was a man of great integrity, loved the Lord and sang His praises at every opportunity using his melodious voice with incomparable soul and enthusiasm. He leaves to mourn his memory, his wife Janie Rufus of the home; three daughters, Ms. Tonya Annette Hemby of Chesapeake, Va., Ms. Sharon Denise Rufus of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ms. Renee Michelle Rufus of Kinston; three sisters, Paulette Ingram, Juliet Burge, and Annie Davis, all of Kinston; two brothers, Louis Rufus of Richmond, Va. and Clarence Rufus of Kinston; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Viewing will be held at the funeral home from 3-5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4 with a wake from 6-8 p.m. at St. John FWB Church, 405 E.
