LA GRANGE - Carl Greene Hardy Jr., 84, of La Grange, peacefully passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home. Carl was born June 21, 1929 in Greene County to the late Carl Greene Hardy Sr. and Roberta Barnes Hardy. He served his country in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War. Carl retired from The Noland Co. following thirty years of service. He was an important part of the family business, Hardy's Appliance & Furniture, which was established in 1960. Carl faithfully served his Lord and was an active member of La Grange United Methodist Church where he has served as a trustee, superintendent and on the building committee. He loved meeting and talking with people. He and his daughter, Beth, operated The Glove Outlet, a business that catered to fisherman. He cherished the many friendships made through this endeavor. Carl was a behind the scenes person, never boastful and always willing to help others. He was very proud of the scholarship established by the family business to help a deserving student further their education. Most of all, Carl cherished time spent with his family. He received great enjoyment watching his grandchildren in their different activities. Recently, Carl traveled to Mexico for medical treatment. This brief time away lifted his spirits and the trip turned into a vacation for him where many special memories were made with Carl, Beth and Bailey. A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. from La Grange United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Teague and the Rev. Rufus Butner officiating. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the service. Carl is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Elizabeth Sutton Hardy; three children, Carl G. Hardy III, Michael P. Hardy and Beth Hardy; ten grandchildren, Melissa Hardy Grimes and husband Doug, Matthew Blake Jarman, C.G. Hardy III and wife Brandi, Paul Jarman, Christopher G. Hardy, Phillip Jarman, Kelly Hardy Ellis and husband Tyler, Amy J. Wade and husband Joe, Jamie Hardy and Stacie Hardy; one great-grandchild, Ava Gray Jarman; and a brother, Thomas Hardy and wife Ann.
