Earl Barrows Obituary

BARROWS, EARL JOSEPH - retired USAF Colonel, born on April 20, 1920 in S. Portland, Maine, has been a Knoxville area resident since retiring from the Air Force in 1974 (after falling in love with the area during a drive through). He served in the Air Force for 33 years. He enjoyed walking the neighborhoods and city of Knoxville, traveling, singing, music, reading for the blind, delivering meals on wheels (with treats for pets), and square dancing. "The Colonel", who passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, is survived by Edna Grace (Gracie) Barrows, his beloved wife of 28 years; his four daughters, Jan Barrows, Barbara Carr, Alice Miller and Carla Barrows-Wiggins; three stepsons, Allan Sherrod, Ron Sherrod and Todd Sherrod; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren (to whom he was known as Pacan). He was predeceased by his first wife, Gwendolyn Hope Barrows and his oldest grandchild, R. Jerrel Hall. A small memorial service was held at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. The family would like to thank the caring and friendly staff of Holston.
