THOMAS, HARRY EARL - age 93, of Oak Ridge, passed away, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Briarcliff Health Care Center. He was born June 30, 1920 in Chattanooga, TN, the son of William Nelson Thomas and Essie Mae Gates Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a retired captain from the Oak Ridge Police Department, serving for 39 years. He began in 1944, entering into the Guard, which was a civilian police department controlled by the military. He was a long-time member of Robertsville Baptist Church and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks #1684. As a pastime, he always enjoyed working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glendon "Glennie" Thomas, November 3, 1999. He is survived by son, David L. Thomas and wife Rebecca of Oak Ridge; daughter, Harriette Hastings and husband Dale of Somerville, TN; 2 grandchildren, Katrina "Katie" Thomas of Oak Ridge and Robert Hastings and wife Leigh Ann of Canada; and 2 great grandchildren, Thomas Hastings and Anna Leigh Hastings. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 5:00- 7:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Brian Scott officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Members of the Oak Ridge Police Department will serve as pallbearers.
