BRIDGES, JAMES "CLAUDE" - age 94 of Loudon, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014. Claude Bridges was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. He was retired from K-25 in Oak Ridge following 27 years of service. After retirement, Claude enjoyed gardening and traveling to other areas collecting fresh produce to sell back home. He was a Champion Checker player, many challenges were made but he was seldom beat by an opponent. One of Claude's lifetime highlights was his trip to Washington, DC with the Honor Air Flight where he was celebrated for his service to our country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Janie (Miller) Bridges; beloved wife, Lillie (Lindsey) Bridges; son, Bobby Bridges; step-children, Ruthie Thearp and Michael Oody; grandson, Donnie Thearp and 6 siblings. He is survived by his son, Larry" Bridges "Coach"; daughter and son in-law, Sheila and Jimmy Herron, all of Loudon; grandchildren, Corrie Riggs, Todd Bridges, Katy Reasor, Jordan Herron, Sammie Thearp, Jeff Oody and Marc Oody; 10 great grandchildren;, several great-great grandchildren; daughter in-law, Betsy Bridges, Oak Ridge and a multitude of friends. The family expresses their gratitude to the many caregivers and the staff at Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home for their tender care of Claude over the recent years. Services honoring and remembering Mr. Bridges will be held 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 18, 2014, McGill-Karnes Chapel with Rev. Dick DeMerchant officiating. Interment 11:00 AM Wednesday in Loudon County Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Loudon County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service at McGill-Karnes Funeral Home, Loudon. www.mcgillkarnes.com
