JAMES (JIM) HOLT

HOLT, JAMES (JIM) - 81, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Parkwest Medical Center. Born in Belview, MN, he was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Rock Dell Lutheran Church, graduated Belview High School in 1951, and later attended Minnesota Business College. He Joined the United States Army, and served during the Korean Conflict. After serving, he married Caryl Dee Stratmoen, he farmed the family farm, and started a grain bin construction company. Jim's favorite occupation, though, was that of tour bus driver. He retired from farming, and adopted Knoxville, TN as his new home, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. Jim was a member of several organizations including serving as Commander of the August Donner Post #309 of the American Legion; President of the Farmer's Union; member of the DFL, and member and President of Grace Lutheran Church, Belview, MN. He also loved his active years in the Dixie Derby Square Dance Club. Preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister, he is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Caryl Dee; daughter Kim and husband Marty Garcia of York, PA; son Robin and wife Julie Holt of New Hope, MN; son Patrick Holt of New Ulm, MN; and daughter Shannon Holt of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren James and wife Kristie Garcia; Stephanie Dersch and Michelle Garcia; Hunter and Gretchen Holt, and Matthew Bates; great-grandchild Aubree Dersch; a brother and a sister. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, 3:00 p.m., First Baptist Church of Knoxville with the Rev. Dave Ward, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m., preceding the service. The interment is private, and will take place at the East Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery.
