JOHN LAWRENCE "LARRY" O'CONNOR Jr.

O'CONNOR, JOHN LAWRENCE "LARRY", JR. - age 82, of Knoxville, died peacefully, after a short battle with cancer, with his wife of 61 years and three daughters by his side. He was a Korean War Air Force veteran and retired from the University of Tennessee in 1997 after 35 years of service with engineering services of the Physical Plant. He was always the life of the party, a true southern gentleman, an avid Vol football fan, and an enthusiastic watercolor artist who held "Art Night" lessons for his family every Tuesday for the past eleven years. He loved cats, old VW beetles, chocolate, watercolor workshops in North Carolina, his daughters, and most of all, his best friend, Helen. He is preceded in death by mother, Mary Kathryn Gresham O'Connor Lavin; father, John Lawrence O'Connor, Sr.; and step father, Robert E. Lavin. He is survived by his wife, Helen Spencer Roehl O'Connor; daughters, Pamela Kay O'Connor Freer Wood, Leslie Ann O'Connor, and Patricia Lynn O'Connor, all of Knoxville; and granddaughter, Ellen Ruth Freer, of Florida; brother-in-law, William Edward Roehl, Jr., and wife, Alice, of Niceville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Funeral Home. Committal services will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Whispering Waters. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the , P.O.
