NEIL, SCOTT RICHARD - age 55, of Knoxville, passed away at his home on December 27. Scott was formerly an active United Methodist minister in the Holston Conference. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee in religious studies and a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Scott later returned to UT to earn a second master's degree from the School of Social Work. He was a psychiatric social worker at Helen Ross McNabb and Lakeshore Mental Health Institute. Scott had a deep compassion for the mentally ill and the homeless. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Albert (Al) Richard Neil. He is survived by his son, Scott Richard Neil, II; daughter-in-law, Rebekka Doka Neil; and grandson, Scott Foster Neil. He is also survived by his mother, Jean Bailey Neil; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and James Raxter; brother and sister-in-law, Russell (Russ) Bailey and Lisa Neil; nephews, Senior Airman James Neil and Victoria (Zach) Raxter, Issac Allen Neil, and Elliott Bailey Raxter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holston Conference Foundation, PO Box 900, Alcoa, TN 37701, noting the Pastor Assistance Fund, which assists pastors and parsonage families in need.
