JIMMY DARYL SKEEN

SKEEN, JIMMY DARYL - age 72, of Halls, went to be with Jesus and other loved ones on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Jim accepted Christ as a teenager, was baptized and a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Powell. Jim owned Regional Floral Products and sold flowers and supplies in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. He ended his career by teaching at Tennessee Technology of Knoxville for ten years before retiring in 2010. Jim came from a loving and musical family. He played guitar and sang songs with his family all his life. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching at his home in Mount Royal. In later years, he spent as much time as he could at his floating lake cottage at Waterside Marina. Crisp mornings, brilliant sunsets, star filled nights, and dog Sheroo riding on the front of the pontoon boat were his favorite times at the lake. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ross and Louise Collins Skeen; brother, Bobby Skeen; brother-in-law, Bob Turner and sister-in-law, Martha Skeen. Survived by wife of 42 years, Shirley Kiser Skeen and two children, Rebecca Thack (Kevin) and Billy Skeen (Angie); brothers, Kenneth (Florence), Wayne, and Tim (Judy) Skeen; sister, Sue Johnson (Doyle); grandchildren, Abbey, Allison, Isaac, Laylah, Fisher, and Sawyer; sisters-in-law, Dawn Turner and Elaine Kiser; nieces and nephews, Steve, Stacy, Missy, Tony, Michael, Debbie, Mike, Betsy, Bonnie, Kacie, Andy, and Natalie; lake friends, Frank, Matt, Melissa, Bryan, and Jim Gresham; special friends, Allen and Janie Wade. Jim maintained a positive attitude and a courageous spirit throughout his battle with cancer. He always encouraged the family and never lost his famous sense of humor, especially when he was "practicing" his moans. Thanks to Sharon Baptist Church and nurses on 12 East Oncology Floor at U.T. Medical Center. A special thanks to Grace on the night shift. Thanks to Dr. David Rankin, Dr. Klein, Quality Home Care and Amedysis Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sharon Baptist Church Building Fund, 7916 Pedigo Road, Powell, TN 37849. Jim's request was for cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, 08-25-2013, at Stevens Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mark McCoig officiating.
