TUNNELL, ALVIN - age 91, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 31, 2012. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Eaton Tunnell; parents, Cecil Emett Tunnell and Bessie Stalnaker Tunnell; and brothers, Thomas Adelbert and Edward Gates Tunnell. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Tunnell Stanley and spouse Larry of Knoxville; sisters, Pauline Jennings of Gallatin, TN, Maxine Buehler of Le Roy, IL, Martha T. McGavic of LaGrange, GA; brother, Hilton A. Tunnell of Knoxville; grandson, Joe Murphy and spouse Mary of Panama City Beach; granddaughter, Christy Murphy Rickman and spouse Chad of Knoxville; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Alvin was born March 11, 1921 in Etta, MS. He was a member and former deacon of Labelle Haven Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. He was retired from Southern Painting Co. of Memphis and a veteran of the U.S. Army. His hobbies included fishing, building and flying model airplanes, model ship building, and metal detecting. Formerly of Hernando, MS, Alvin moved to Knoxville and resided at Atria Weston Place for the past six years where he was an Ambassador. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Atria Weston Place for their kindness and loving care. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2013, beginning at 10:00 am and the celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 am all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 5599 Poplar Avenue.
