ELLIS, DR. DONALD EUGENE - 27 May 1934 - 5 November 2013. Don lost his 19 year battle with Parkinson's at the age of 79. Don lived a full and rich life, after high school he served with the Air Force in the Korean War as tail gunner on a B-29. His love of flying led him to earn his airline transport pilot's license. Don enjoyed flying all his life and flew private planes up until his health would no longer allow it. Don's love of animals led him to attend veterinary school at the University of Georgia where he received his doctorate in veterinary medicine. Don opened a practice in College Park, Georgia, called Airport Animal Hospital which thrived for 45 years. A strong supporter of higher education, Don returned to school to receive his second degree in psychology at Georgia State University. Don was an avid gun collector who believed strongly in defending our 2nd Amendment rights and was also a big proponent of physical fitness walking/jogging 5 miles a day for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Caroline and Leonard Ellis; first wife, Shirley Wilbanks Ellis; and grandson, John A. Gibbs III. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Moore Ellis; his brother, Leonard Ellis; and children, Donna Ellis Gibbs, Anne Ellis Moore (Patrick), Frank Ellis (Michelle); and step children, Terri Moore Nardslico (Al), Margaret Moore Vaughn (Buzz), Owen Daniel Moore; and eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Rosalind Hill. He was a Christian and a member of Laurel Bank Baptist Church in Maryville, Tennessee. Special thanks to Janet Johnson and the staff at Amedisys Home Health.
