MCCONNELL, DONALD JOSEPH - 83, of Somerset Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 17, 2014. Donald was born on January 16, 1931 in the Borough of Manhattan, New York City, New York to the late John McConnell and Virginia Hopkins Masson. He was married to Ruthmary Wells in Phoenix, AZ on April 22, 1953, and to this union four children were born. Donald worked as a Geologist and was an exploration leader for both Kerr McGee and Sunoco in search of uranium, copper, oil, and gas deposits before his retirement. In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling, was an avid sporting clay shooter, and Boy Scout leader. Donald was very active in every church he attended as an elder or singing in the choir. He was last, a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Geneseo, NY, where he and Ruthmary lived for several years. Donald is survived by his wife, Ruthmary McConnell; his four children, Susan Supinski (Dr. Robert) of Somerset, KY, Virginia Pharaoh (Dr. James) Knoxville, TN, Daniel McConnell (Beth) Houston, TX, Brian McConnell (Cynthia) Cochabamba, Bolivia; ten grandchildren, Stephanie, Shanna, Cara and Molly McConnell, Rebecca, Andrew, and Matthew Graves, Lily Supinski, Carola Criado (Jose), and Christopher Coria; as well as two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Bella Criado. Also surviving are two special first cousins, Sue Tanis of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Sybilla Bazil of Waldorf, MD. Visitation for Donald Joseph McConnell will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co., with a celebration of life service being held at 7:00 p.m., with Dr. Nancy Lowmaster officiating. In addition, a grave side service will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverview Cemetery at Jefferson City, MO, with Dr. David Henry officiating. Somerset Undertaking Co. is in charge of all arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Dr, Somerset, KY 42503.
