WHITE, DOROTHY DAVIS - was born February 24, 1931, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Mr. William E. and Mrs. Jennie Upton Davis. She went home to be with Jesus on November 18, 2012, at 9:28 a.m. She was united in holy matrimony to Oscar N. White on March 2, 1948. To this union was born five children, Oscar Jr., Karen, Frances, Dorothy Ann, and Sandra. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a child at Wallace Chapel AME Zion Church where she grew up. Mrs. White became a member of Payne Avenue Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. H. J. Bailey to be with her husband. The children received Christ, were baptized, and reared there also. She was an active member of Payne Avenue and served as Church Secretary for several years. Her love for Christ and for her family were paramount to her. Both Brother and Sister White later united with New Metropolitan Baptist Church. On August 13, 2000, Mrs. White united with Mount Olive Baptist Church where she continued to worship until her death. Mrs. White was employed by Knoxville City Schools (later Knox County Schools) as a secretary. She retired after 27 years of service. Her greatest joy was her family - her husband, her five stars (the children), and 10 satellites (7 grandchildren) (3 great-grandsons). Her testimony was always, "how God had loved and cared for them, heard and answered their prayers." Preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Oscar N. White, Sr.; daughter Sandra White Summey; parents; brothers Theodore, James Thomas, Martin L., William E, Jr. Davis and sister Evelyn Davis Williams; daughter-in-law Sandra L.
