MORRIS, DR. GEORGE H. - age 80, died on September 6, 2013, in Knoxville. He was born in Morristown, Tennessee, to George and Mary Henderson Morris. He graduated from McCallie School in 1951 as the captain of the boxing team and Mid South champion football team. He graduated from the Auburn School of Pharmacy in 1955, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. George served in the U.S. Army, where he was captain in the Fourth Infantry Division Artillery in 1960. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Watkins Morris; sons, Trex and wife, Holly, Mike and wife, Raleigh, Tom and wife, Kathy, Mark and wife, Tara; stepsons, Lynn and wife, Mel, Mark; stepdaughter, Sharon K. Sexton and husband, Richie; nine grandchildren; and many other family and friends. He owned and operated Morris Drug Center for 24 years, as well as serving as sergeant of arms at the Knoxville Rotary Club for 40 years, achieving the rank of Paul Harris Fellow. He was a longtime member of the Washington Pike United Methodist Church, where he coordinated the food pantry. He also served in missions for 36 years, serving in Haiti, Brazil, Guatemala and Mexico. He enjoyed spending time with his family, rabbit hunting with his beagles, gardening, snow skiing and fishing. A receiving of friends will be held at Washington Pike United Methodist on Monday, September 9th, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Patrick Polis, Rev. Dr. James Daughtery, and Rev. Dr. Jerry Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church designated for the Food Pantry Fund or the Missions Fund.
