DEBRO, JESSE III, DEACON - age 77 of Knoxville Tennessee, passed peacefully into the hands of our Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Saint James Chicago Heights, Chicago, Illinois. Deacon DeBro was born on October 13, 1935 to the late Jesse DeBro, Jr. and Bessie DeBro Jones. He married his devoted and loving wife, Mrs. Janice Rogers DeBro, on June 17, 1954. He was a faithful member of the Cherry Street Church of God where he served on the Deacon Board, Senior Choir and he was the Devotional Leader at the Wednesday Night Bible Study. Jesse was a graduate of Austin High School in 1955 where he was on the National Honor Society and attended Knoxville College . He retired from the Knox County Government after 37 years of Service. While employed at the Knox County Courthouse, he dedicated many years of service, especially helping senior citizens with tax problems, searching deeds, and finding jobs for the unemployed. He was well-known throughout the National Body, Democratic and Republican parties. "The Mayor" (an endearing term) as he was known to many was one of the 1st Black African American hired at the Knox County Courthouse. He was a chartered member of Mechanicsville/Lonsdale Optimist Club where he served as the Secretary/Treasurer and the Chairperson of the Old Gate Building Fund Committee. He certainly was an "Icon" to the Knoxville Community. He was a dedicated loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. Preceded in death by parents, Bessie Cowan DeBro Jones and Jesse DeBro, Jr.; brother, Willie Charles DeBro; sisters, Mary Florence McClain, Diane Pride; and devoted aunt, Lillian (Edward) George. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 58 years, Janice Rogers DeBro; a devote son, Edward (Cheryl) DeBro Sr, Grand Prairie, TX; two devoted daughters, Cheryl DeBro Scruggs, Chattanooga, TN and Kimberly (Johnny) Ward, Chicago IL; siblings: Lillian A Porter, Sarah Underwood, Paulette (Robert) Newton, Edward (Carolyn) Jones, Abeberry DeBro, Robert (Kathy) DeBro, Hubert Latham, Yolanda (Victor) Rodgers, Linda (Elbert) Brown, Debra Henry, Jacqueline Mitchell, Warren Puckett, Endia Puckett, Robert Fisher, Sr., Jack (Elaine) Bolden, and Larry Bolden; aunt, Ruth Cowan; sisters-in-law, Pauline Rogers Harris, Brenda (Lewis) Armstrong; grandchildren: Christy Lane, Knoxville, TN, Demario Cohen, Greenville, SC, Edward (Keisha) DeBro, Jr, Charlotte, NC, Tierra DeBro,
Knoxville, TN, Dennis Brown, Atlanta, GA. Daniel Brown, Knoxville , TN, Sean Ward, and Ashley Ward, Chicago IL; three great grandchildren: Tre', Ceyaira and Taniya; a special niece, Victoria Rodgers; and a host of other nieces and nephews and other relatives. Devoted family and friends: Harris, Perry, Rogers, Galbraith, Evans, Bailey, Frazier, Wilkerson's, Martin, Elder Glenn and wife, Marvin Burris, R Jones, Schumpert families and The Deacon Board of Cherry Street. The family will receive friends, from 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24th at The Cherry Street Church of God, with services to follow at, 12:00 p.m., Elder Thomas Glenn, officiating.
