HUNTER, JOHN E. (LT. COLONEL) - age 93, passed away on January 16, 2013. Colonel Hunter was born in 1919 in Greenville, South Carolina. He started his 24 year military career in 1936. During his time in the United States Army, he served in the Panama Canal zone, North Africa, Korea, Sicily, Italy, and Germany. After retiring from the Army, Colonel Hunter worked in the wholesale jewelry business. Colonel Hunter was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Cantrell Hunter. He is survived by his son, John Terrence Hunter (wife Mary) of Nashville, his grandchildren, John Terrence Hunter, Jr. (wife Sarah) of Winchester, Joseph Lee Hunter (wife Suzy) of Memphis, and Paige Nichole Hunter of Decherd and great grandchildren, Ashlee Suzanne Hunter and Lauren Elise Hunter of Memphis, step-grandchildren, Terry Gann and Pam Camp, along with his special friend, Mary Beeson. The family will receive friends and guests from 12:00 to 1:00 on Friday, January 18 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with memorial services at 1:00 officiated by Dr. Larry Fields. An interment will immediately follow at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (Lyons View Pike) with full military honors provided by the National Guard. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 223 Rosa L. Parks Avenue, Suite 301, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.
