Dear Barbara, We are so sorry with Dick's passing. We will miss His joyous smile and laughter that we enjoyed so often in your lovely home.
The one thing is that Dick was doing just what he loved so much and for this we rejoyce. If we can help you in anyway please just let us know.

Mrs Davies and family, I was saddened to hear of Dick's passing. In the late 1960's he and I played golf and tennis in the mornings before going to work in the afternoon at Goodyear, where he was my boss. We became great friends, and I admired his competitive spirit. His attitude toward family, friends, and sport were singular and inspiring. Bill Massey, Savannah GA

“THE WILL TO WIN WINGFOOT”
In Honor & Celebration of Dick Davies
By Billy Cooper
2/29/2012

One should never wait too late to tell;
The one you knew quite so well;
That what he taught you would carry you through;
Tough years of challenges and times of blue.

Although his ways at that time;
May have “seemed” a bit sublime;
Now after 25 years of my automotive career;
I “fully” understand why he “gently” kicked a few rears!

While competing with him on the asphalt courts;
The “fear of winning” was well known for me & my cohorts;
Win or loose, when staring across the net at our Olympic idol;
And admiring his “Will to Win” was his ultimate goal.

Fond memories continue to forever last;
Like playing mixed doubles with him on his beloved grass;
Watching my basketball idol shoot county fair hoops;
To win teddy bears for his beloved troops.

Although sadly he never, ever actually knew;
He gave me “The Will to Win,” received by only few;
Thousands of workout hours & 24 hour work days just to survive;
While thinking of the Wingfoot whom unknowingly taught me to strive.

Often late in recent years' long work day nights;
A thought of calling him to give him thanks & say his was right;
For the gift he never knew he gave me needed recognition;
I pray today he somehow now knows, even after his mission.

Dear Barbara and children of whom I remember 30 years to date;
My friends & I wish we could be with you to celebrate;
The life and tennis stories about Dick in our youthful years;
Though saddened a gift was never acknowledged with crying tears.

Today you guys come together to celebrate;
The life of a man that we all so highly rate;
But now “The Man Upstairs” not only has angels with wings in wind;
But also the Wingfoot to teach His flock “THE WILL TO WIN”!

Dear Barbara and children:

I am truly sorry for Dick's passing, as Jim Skoda called me tonight to tell me. The words I write are very true, as I have often wanted to call Dick and tell him “Thanks” for teaching me due to his example of his “Will to Win,” which has pushed me to persevere in many trying times.

Sincerely,

Bill Cooper – President

Dear Babs and Family,
I share your sadness and your joy,
learning of Dick's passing.
Sadness that his voice and smile will be missing, and Joy in knowing that where he is now, he would not want to come back. He is with his LORD and Savior JESUS. Also, Joy in knowing that one day we will all join him and all of our loved ones in Glory.The way that the world is going, I believe that will be very soon.
Love and blessings,
Bob

Mr. Davies was one of the nicest people I met during my time at Tellico Village, always smiling and friendly, I will never forget when he took my 10 yr old for a ride in his favorite car "The Viper" it is still one of my son's greatest memories even though he is grown with children of his own now. He lived a remarkable life and will be missed by many!

Dick was truly a great athlete and a kind man. He will be missed. My family and I met him about 15 years ago at the Senior Olympics where he was WINNING.
