BURCH, DR. ROBERT CUNNINGHAM - age 73 of Knoxville, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The Dr. Robert Cunningham Burch was born on November 4, 1938 in Lufkin, TX. He attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX on a golf scholarship and later graduated from TCU in 1962. Dr. Burch attended Asbury Theological Seminary, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and later received his Doctorate of Ministry from Mid-America Theological Seminary in Memphis in 1990. He was the Baptist Student Union Director at Texas A&M University from 1967 to 1973, and later became the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in 1974 until 2001. He was a Trustee at Southwestern Theological Seminary from 1993-2005. Throughout the span of his ministry, he was a gifted Bible teacher who taught people how the scriptures could make a relevant difference in their lives. He had a passion for missions and was influential with the numerous students who attended Calvary while attending college at UT. For many years, his sermons were broadcast daily on a daily radio program, "The Calvary Pulpit". After his retirement from Calvary in 2001, he served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Misawa, Japan. It was there where he became ill with leukemia. Dr. Burch is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Katherine Burch and children and spouses, Katherine and John Jones, Robert Burch Jr. and wife, Rima, David and AnnRose Burch, Paul and Gina Burch and Liz and Seth Petree and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Joseph Burch and wife Becky; his sister Jane Burross and her husband Larry; many nieces and nephews and devoted friends. The family will receive friends at Calvary Baptist Church, 3200 Kingston Pike, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 with funeral services to follow at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Sutherland Avenue for graveside services.
