PAYNE, ROBERT LADD - age 88 born November 24, 1924 began his glorious after life and met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 12:15 p.m. He was a long time member of Emerald Avenue United Methodist Church and Dixie Lee Baptist Church for the past 20 years. Bob graduated from Knoxville High School in 1943-A where he played on the state championship football team in 1942. He was captain of the ROTC Company "A". Serving in the Army Air Corps in W. W. II, stateside, training many young men to navigate by the stars and personally navigating C47's and B17's in the Korean Conflict. Bob was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He was a member of IBEW Local 760 since 1946 and a Mason since 1952. Bob loved the time he was involved with the Sunday school ministry and singing at Summit View Nursing Home in Farragut. And as the Lord had planned, there he met his precious wife and subsequently there he was cared for the last 6 months of his life. Preceded in death by his parents, Emory Lee and Rowena Barker Payne; son, Gilbert Lynn Payne; sisters, Ruth Payne Turner, Lorriane Payne Turner and Dorothy Payne; brothers, William, Donald and Gilbert Payne. Left to grieve are his loving wife, travel partner and best friend for 21 years, Ida Kate Cusick Payne; daughters, Cheryl Ladd Payne Cheatham of Montana and Lenoir City, and Karen Louise Payne McKenzie of Knoxville; son, Robert Loren Payne of Montana and Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Arlene Ouellette Payne of Knoxville; beloved step children, Ronald Cusick of Farragut; Karen Cusick Reber of Kodak; many grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces and nephews. Great love and respect goes to the staff, RN's, LPN's, CNA's of Summit View in Farragut. Your love for Bob will never be forgotten. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25th at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. A service of remembrance will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Roger Hazel and Dr. Jim Clayton. Music for the service will be provided as a loving tribute to their Uncle Bob by Donna Payne McNeilly and William "Sonny" Payne. Military honors will be conferred by the Loudon Co. Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of The Smokies or the .
