CATE, THOMAS MINNIS - age 84, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at the Tennova Hospice facility. Mr. Cate was born to the late Thomas and Daisy Wise Cate, August 5, 1929, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Tom graduated from Central High School in 1947 and studied three years at Tennessee Tech University. He met and married his devoted wife of 58 years, Faun Marie Jackson Cate, on his birthday in 1955. Tom served in the Navy during the Korean War, and worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories until his retirement in 1989. His life revolved around his love for family especially for his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, watching football and engaging in discussion of current events and politics. He was never without a cap, wearing either his Tennessee ball cap or his favorite 'Don't Tread on Me' cap, bearing the inscription made famous on an American Revolution flag. Tom was a member of the Concord Baptist Church. Tom is survived by two children: son, Tom and wife, Debbie Cate, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Bill Arbo, of Roanoke, Virginia. Tom was beloved by his many grandchildren, Matt and Ashli Arbo, Kansas City, Missouri, Patrick and Jennifer Arbo, Johnson City, Tennessee, Jordan and Jen Cate, Whitney and Josh Apa, and Bailey Cate, all of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his first great grandchild, Henry Thomas Arbo of Kansas City, Missouri. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 19, at 6:00 at the Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Pike Chapel with services to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the University of Tennessee Hospice, who provided the Tom and his family with loving and supportive care or the .
