REED, WILLIAM HUBERT - age 88, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Connie; brother, Gilbert; brother and best friend, Earl; sister, Betty Jane England, and great grandson, Jacob Kenner. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann McMahan; sons, William and Robert; grandsons, Bill and wife, Dena, Jeff and wife, Julie; granddaughter, Hannah Kenner and husband, Zack; great grandchildren, Grace, Hugh, Tyler, Tate, Parker; and several nieces and nephews. During World War II, Hubert served in the Merchant Marine Service. He was rapidly promoted to positions of command and made repeated transatlantic and transpacific voyages. He always joked that VJ Day was noteworthy for also being his birth date. After the war, Hubert became an accountant and analyst with Central Motor Express in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He and his brother, Earl, later became owners of Skyline

Transportation, Inc., a trucking firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee. In his off time, Hubert continued to have an interest in land and sea travel. He was past president of Tennessee Ridge Runners RV Club, and longtime member of the Dixie Travelliers and Converted Coach RV Clubs. His interest in the sea was enduring and he continued to be involved with inland, coastal, and transoceanic adventures. Hubert always said he disliked funerals with somber organ music and excessive weeping and grieving. He always said when his time came he would much prefer family and friends to gather, joke, tell a few stories, and have some laughs. And so it will be that a celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday, April 7th, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial, Knoxville.
