LEWIS, DR. JEAN - age 80 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday February 15, 2014. She was born in New York City to Anna Vitek and Torkel Lewis. She was Professor emeritus at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville prior to obtaining her Doctorate at the University, Jean was an Assistant professor at Ithaca College in New York. She taught major and service programs while developing and directing several new courses. Jean coached women's Varsity Athletic teams, worked with the women's Athletic council and was director of the officiating program. Jean was an active supporter of the Lady Vols and the Football Vols. Jean retired from the University in 1995. Her retirement years included traveling, woodworking, gardening and keeping up with her canine critters. Jean is survived by her sister Anne Lewis; special friends Jennifer Ballew, Fred Eidson, Sally Jacob, Marcia Keith, Stephen Owens, Charlotte Akers, David Reaves, Audrine Honey and loving caretakers Luda and Filipp Gashchenko. A celebration of life service will be held at 5:00 pm Friday, March 7, 2014 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make any memorials to Knox County Humane Society, Young -Williams Animal Center and the" We Back Pat" foundation.
