CROLEY, VERA (PEGGY) VERMILYEA - age 91, of Knoxville, TN, passed away March 29, 2014. She was born on April 14, 1922 in Verndale, Minnesota, and moved to Knoxville in 1942 to work for the Tennessee Valley Authority. A charter member of First Baptist Church of Concord, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Croley; her parents Glenn C. Vermilyea and Elizabeth Ruth Dodson Vermilyea Webster; stepfather Marvin Webster; sisters Jocelyn Bunce and Beryl Rudolph; brother Glenn R. Vermilyea and grandson Robert R. (Robby) Croley, Jr. Survived by son Robert R. (Bo) Croley and wife Pat; daughter Peggy C. Maxwell and husband Doug; grandchildren Crystal L. Coffey, Timothy D. Maxwell and Richard B. Croley; great grandchildren Kiersten Winter Coffey, Spencer C. Coffey, and Xander Paine. Peggy was a graduate of Chillicothe Business College, co-owner of Croley Realty Co. and Success Builders, Inc. and enjoyed many activities including ceramics, china painting, gardening and traveling in the family motorhome. She was a former member of the East Tennessee Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America and a charter member of the Classy Lassie Chapter of the Red Hat Society. A private funeral service with Rev. Steve Peak officiating will be conducted graveside at Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to East Tennessee Children's Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House of Knoxville. Highland Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
