OVERCASH, WHITNEY JOEL - 53, passed away on April 25, 2014, at 2:25 p.m. in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Whitney was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on December 13, 1960, and, as he would like to tell, during a snow storm that brought 13 inches of snow. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Myra Anne Black Overcash; and an incredibly supportive father, William Hugh Overcash. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wendell Hugh and Joanne Landon Overcash of Goshen, KY; his nieces, Holly Anne Overcash currently of Ann Arbor, MI, and Erin Roxie Overcash currently of Boulder, CO. He was a 1980 graduate of Russell High School and always held as one of his fondest memories how his class mates gave him a standing ovation during the graduation ceremony. His peers understood the many difficulties and handicaps he faced during his life and acknowledged their understanding by conferment of that generous honor. That very brief moment in time was remembered with great clarity and pride. To those of you that knew Whitney, you know the extent of daily challenges he and his family faced, often with quiet determination. His challenges were profound and life-long. We ask that those more fortunate not forget those of a lesser ability and not give up on them for that is so easy to do. Bless all those well-educated and well-intended individuals that offered medical advice, social services, counseling and care-givers, for you are the angels that walk among us - you do what we could not. For those that remembered Whitney in their prayers, conversed with him, offered guidance and advice, and treated him inclusively - thank you. Whitney spent most of his adult life at Wellspring facilities in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was client #001. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Wellspring P.O. Box 1927, Louisville, KY 40201-1927 (502) 637-4361. Visitation will be held at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.. Tuesday, April 29th, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, 1421 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. A service in memory of Whitney will be held Wednesday, April 30th, at 10:00 a.m., at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with procession and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following. We hope you find the peace you have sought so earnestly. God's speed, my brother. Online condolences can be made at www.rosemortuary.com.
