DELAP, REVEREND SHIRLEY M. - age 93, of Knoxville, passed away June 14, 2014, after a brief illness at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Corbin, Kentucky, and moved to Knoxville with her husband and son following World War II. Shirley was called to the ministry and assigned her first church, Rosewood Church, in 1955. From there, she became counselor to the married students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Campus, and a speaker for the United Tennessee League. In 1971, she founded the Sunday School Hour, which met at Ken Rice's Oldsmobile Dealership for many years. Eventually, the congregation relocated to The Lord's Chapel, where Shirley remained as pastor until 2005. She wrote the original script for Knoxville's Nativity Pageant, which is still being performed. She is also the author of "I Never Wore the Collar". She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Delap; son, Jim Delap; parents, Clarence and Molly Lundy. She is survived by her sister, Rhea McGee; and daughter-in-law, Ann Delap, both of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Jeanette Payton (Richard) of Wichita Falls, TX; nieces, Vickie Bellamy (Charlie) of Knoxville, and Angie Craig (Mike) of Wichita Falls, TX; nephews, Bob McGee (Lana) of Knoxville, Bob Payton (Lori) of Wichita Falls, TX, and Harry Smith of Charles Town, WV. Special thanks to caregivers, Gypsy Finley and Linda Edmonds, and neighbor, Lois Miller. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at The Lord's Chapel on Peters Road, with Reverend Darris Doyal officiating.
