ELKINS, REVEREND LOWELL FRAKER - age 77, of Andersonville, Tennessee, was welcomed into Heaven on July 10, 2014. While he lived his entire life in East Tennessee, he was a loving husband for fifty five years to Joyce A. Elkins, who passed away June 27, 2013. They have a son, Michael R. Elkins, Ph.D.; along with a nephew who is like a son, David B. Humphrey with wife Sherry; and a long time "adopted" extended family, Lannie O. Hillon and wife Audry and two daughters, Rebekah and Casey. Rev. Elkins is the son of James Michael and Ruby Ethlyn Elkins, who went to Heaven in 1983 and 1989, respectively. He was one of thirteen total siblings. He was reared with five brothers, James Monroe Elkins, Harvey Lester Elkins who went to Heaven in 2005, Melvin Lee Elkins, Larry Joel Elkins, and Steve Lynn Elkins. He was also reared with seven sisters, Ethlyn Lorene Humphrey, Audrey Mae Pike who went to Heaven in 1997, Laura Elizabeth Bell, Jewel Dean Shropshire, Barbara Ruth Bailey, Jean Morgan Howard, and Brenda Gail Webber. He had many loving nieces and nephews with whom he enjoyed teasing, nicknaming, and telling stories. (Proverbs 27:17) Rev. Elkins served as pastor at Liberty Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church, and Island Ford Baptist Church. When he passed, he was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church. Even though he never provided a pastoral service at these two congregations, he had a special place in his heart for Valley View Baptist Church and Hillvale Baptist Church. In addition to preaching, Rev. Elkins, who smiled when someone called him 'Abbot", repaired Volkwagens, farmed, trained for military service, listened with fondness to WYSH 1380, watched Ciderville Farm and Home Show, enjoyed watching vintage westerns staring John Wayne, and was employed by Union Carbide/Martin Marietta, from where he retired in 1996. Michael would like to thank everyone who encouraged, prayed for, and helped while Rev. Elkins served as a loyal and faithful warrior for Christ. In lieu of flowers, Michael asks that honorary donations be sent to the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, 1901 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14th, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral service will follow with Rev. Charles Harness, Rev. David Phillips, and Rev. Allen Giles officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, July 15th, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
