MECCIA, ROBERT MICHAEL, LTC, U.S. ARMY RETIRED - age 70, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014. Bob was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point Class of 1966, where he played varsity baseball and soccer. In 1988, Bob retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel. He was an Airborne Ranger who served in Vietnam. He earned his masters degree in environmental engineering in 1973 at the University of Illinois. Bob enjoyed a successful career as an environmental engineer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Susan (Royalty) Meccia. Bob is survived by his wife, Jan Meccia; son, Brian Meccia and wife Anna Beth Meccia; son, Brad Meccia; sister, Joanne Meccia; brother, Tom Meccia and wife Betsy; brother-in-law, Mike Leuthen and wife Maureen Leuthen; sister-in-law, Lisa Bourgeois; one nephew, many nieces, great nieces and one great nephew.
