JENKINS, DONALD RAY - age 72 of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 4, 2014. Donnie was a 1961 graduate of Lenoir City High School. He earned three basketball letters at LCHS and as a senior was elected Captain, Best Defensive Player and all District. He was a two year starter at Hiwassee Junior College and elected Captain in his last year. Donnie later was a two year starter at Berry College and again was elected Captain of his team. He coached basketball at Dalton (GA) High School and then returned as head coach and athletic director at Hiwassee Junior College. In his fourteen years there, he won seventy one percent of his games and was inducted into the Tennessee Junior College Hall of Fame in 1988. In 2007, he was inducted into the Lenoir City High School Hall of Fame. Donnie served as principal at Madisonville and Sequoyah High Schools and later served as Assistant Director of Schools in Monroe County until his retirement. He retired to his home in Tellico Village where he was an avid golfer. Preceded in death by his parents, Everette Jenkins and Emma Lou Drake; and his brother, Jerry Paul Jenkins. Survived by his daughters, Kelly Robinson of Madisonville, Donna Gardner and husband, Don of Lebanon; grandchildren, Andrew Robinson, Rebecca Allgood, and Devon Gardner; great grandchild, Sky McDonald; brothers, Everette Jenkins, Jr. and wife, Sandra, Kenneth Larry Jenkins and wife, Janice, David Allen Jenkins and Barbara Moats all of Lenoir City; mother of his children, Sue Jenkins; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10th at the First Baptist Church in Lenoir City with Rev. Bill Dyer officiating. Members of the Lenoir City High School Hall of Fame will serve as honorary pallbearers. Casual attire is requested.
