FARMER, MILDRED (MICKIE) ATKINS - age 83 , of Knoxville, passed away 6:30 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014. Lovingly called "Nana" and "Aunt Mickie" by family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City. Mickie loved music (church organist and pianist for many years at Fairview Baptist Church) and her lifetime passion was writing poetry. Graduate of Central High School Class of 1949. Mickie worked for the University of Tennessee College of Business in the 1950's under Dr. Frank Ward and worked for Austin Powder Company for 28 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and American Business Women's Association. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years and high school sweetheart whom she met at Arlington Baptist Church, Billy Eugene Farmer; mother, Minnie Hazelwood Atkins; father, Homer Millard Atkins; brothers, Jack H. Atkins, Sr. and R.T. Atkins; sister, Grace Evelyn Atkins. Survivors: devoted daughter and son-in-law, Teresa (Terri) and Edward Clark; grandchildren, Kristin Clark Reed (Scott) and Bryan Edward Clark; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Ellen Reed and Caroline Elizabeth Reed; sister-in-law, Joyce Farmer Clarke; many loving and caring nieces and nephews with a host of family and friends. Funeral service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Central Baptist Church of Fountain City with Rev. Bob Robinson and Rev. Jeff Cockerham officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2014 at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. Active pallbearers: Jack H. Atkins, Jr., Chris Atkins, Trey Atkins, Todd Atkins, Bryan Clark, Scott Reed, Douglas Simpson and Michael Dunn. Honorary pallbearers: Doyle Whaley, Billy Frank Arnold, Nelson Arnold and David Helton.
